Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Overheating Issue: A Deep Dive

iPhone 15 Pro Overheating

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which were unveiled during the ‘Wonderlust’ event last month, have been the talk of the tech town. However, not all the chatter has been positive. Since their global release on September 22, numerous reports have emerged about overheating issues with the iPhone 15 Pro models.

What’s the Issue?

Several iPhone 15 Pro users took to platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and Apple community forums to highlight that some new models are overheating. Some affected users even mentioned that they couldn’t properly hold their phones as the temperature rose, hitting more than 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The speculation among users was that the issue might be related to the new A17 Pro Bionic processor and the titanium chassis.

Apple’s Response

Apple has officially acknowledged the overheating problems with its iPhone 15 Pro models. In a press statement, the tech giant confirmed its awareness of the issue and promised a fix through an upcoming software update.

Apple pinpointed the cause to recent updates of some third-party apps, such as Instagram and Uber on iOS 17. These updates have reportedly overloaded the system, causing the latest iPhone models to get warmer than usual. Apple is actively working with developers to rectify the issue. For instance, Instagram has already rolled out version 302 to address the problem.

A report by MacRumors quoted Apple’s statement:

“We have identified a few conditions which can cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity. We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that impacts some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out.”

Furthermore, Apple clarified that the iPhone 15 Pro’s titanium frame and aluminium substructure are not contributing factors to the overheating issue.

Pricing and Availability

For those interested in the pricing, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model in India. The iPhone 15 Pro Max begins at Rs. 1,59,900. Both models are available for purchase in India through Apple’s online store, Apple BKC, Saket, various e-commerce websites, and official retail outlets.

Conclusion

While the overheating issue has caused some concern among users, Apple’s swift acknowledgment and promise of a fix show the company’s commitment to addressing user concerns. It remains to be seen how effective the upcoming software update will be in resolving the issue.
