Mr. Domanic Martin Surrenders

In a recent development, a man in Kerala’s Thrissur district has come forward claiming responsibility for the serial blasts that occurred during a prayer meet in Kalamassery. The tragic incident resulted in the death of one individual and left 40 others injured. The man, identified as Mr. Dominic Martin, alleges to have planted the bomb at the convention centre where three explosions were reported on Sunday morning. This information was confirmed by Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar. He stated, “One person has surrendered in Kodakara Police Station, in Thrissur Rural, claiming that he has done it. His name is Dominic Martin and he claims that he belonged to the same group of sabha. We are verifying it. We are looking into all aspects of this case…The blast took place in the central part of the hall.”

However, the police have yet to confirm if Mr. Martin was indeed behind the blasts. He is currently undergoing detailed questioning. Preliminary investigations reveal that the explosives were concealed in a tiffin box, with the first explosion being reported at 9:40 am. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was believed to have been used in the attack, as mentioned by Kerala DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb.

In response to the incident, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has scheduled an all-party meeting at 10 am on Monday in the Secretariat. He is also expected to preside over a high-level meeting concerning the blasts. The Chief Minister expressed his concerns, stating, “It’s a very unfortunate incident. We are collecting details regarding the incident. All top officials in Ernakulam are there. We are taking it very seriously. I have spoken to the DGP and we will get more details after the investigation.”

Eyewitnesses present during the prayer meeting recounted hearing multiple explosions, which was subsequently followed by a fire outbreak.
